An old Mosin Nagant mfg'd in 1922

Neighbor and I shot 40 rounds through his (his dad's old) Mosin Nagant. We couldn't hit with the old rifle, really not even close! We were only at about 40 yards just trying to see where the old gun was hitting...all over the place. Without even adjusting the sights, which proved useless, using Tennessee windage we couldn't make it hit where we wanted. If we were 6" high and 8" to the left then moving 6" down and 8" to the right should put us in the ball park...nope, the subsequent shot could be 9" to the right and still 6" or 8" high...or just wildly somewhere else!

We didn't even look at the bore with a light, heck there may not even be any rifling left in the gun...

Not sure what's going on with the old gun, maybe it has just been shot so much in its 104 years of existence that it just says nah, I ain't doing it anymore!

Could be worn bore, loose action screws, or junk ammo but yeah, that rifle’s grouping like it’s actively protesting service.

I’m not sure if those guns we’re ever used with black powder or not did yall check the bore for pitting or even if you could see any rifling’s or not it may have seen a lot of service during the wars. Does the bolt seem to be tight there are so many different reasons that it’s not shooting well something as simple as the crown having a bad place could cause this , but more apped than not is it’s worn out

Nope....and I stood way behind him on the first few (he did run a patch through it before he shot)! The gun is very solid and appears to be in excellent shape mechanically, the stock shows more of its years than anything else.

My money's on flat worn out, were gonna take a good look in the bore/rifling/crown in a few days, he's out of town at the moment.

He was shooting brand new 182g PPU ammo.
