What carrying three different handle shapes for a month each taught me

The one that looked the most ergonomic sitting in the package turned out to not be the one my hand actually preferred after a full eight hour day with it. That alone was a little humbling because I'd basically judged all three on looks before I ever judged them on feel. What my hand actually gravitated toward ended up being slightly more rounded, slightly less textured and slightly shorter than any of the tactical looking options I tried, the ones that seemed like the obvious choice in photos. It turns out ergonomic preference isn't really something you can figure out by staring at a picture, it only shows up once you've actually lived with something long enough for your hand to form an opinion of its own..

That’s a great observation. What looks right on paper or in photos doesn’t always match what your hand prefers after real use. Extended carry time has a way of revealing comfort in shapes you wouldn’t have picked at first glance.

For me the only reason to carry is self defense and if I can’t hit the target in a hurry every time then I need more practice or a different weapon no ifs or buts , the threat must be stopped before I am JMHO

Another good point ! I have a few weapons I carry just for self defense and others I use at the range to hone my skills. I need all the kelp I can get so I appreciate both points of view. the M&P Shield Plus is mostly my every day carry. It is as-purchased right out of the box and has been very reliable to date. The Sig P226 is the most common hand gun I use for the range. No additions for the M&P as it is intended for that "Oh Crap" moment that I hope never happens to any of us. I just added a red dot to the Sig P226 as I like to play with new things to see for myself what I like or dislike. Next addition could be grips or even a laser pointer for the Sig P320. Happy shooting to all !
