Are you a rifle guy or a handgun guy?

I never really thought much about my preferences but looking back I've been pretty consistent over the past 50+ years.

Of course when many of us were kids we had limited choices in types of handguns and rifles. We didn't have modular tinker toy rifles like AR's and we didn't have polymer frames and interchangeable tops. So I have to admit my dad had a huge influence on the guns I've acquired over more than 50 years.

I'm a classic revolver guy, either Smith or Colt double action. And in rifles, I'm a 22 rimfire guy. I love bolt action, lever action and classics like the Winchester 62a. My rifle collection is pretty modest but I love shooting those beautiful classics.

When it comes to handguns, as mentioned above it's primarily DA Smith and Colt revolvers and a smattering of 1911's. I have a few assorted Berettas and other semi autos but I like 1911's especially in .38Super.

My revolvers with the exception of one have no locks built in. I just can't warm up to locks and polymer. I like long barrels and I love snub nose so I really can't say I'm stuck on any particular style.

Well, I own more handguns than rifles and consider them more practical for personal protection, but cannot say that I prefer them over rifle for shooting pleasure. They both have such an important place in the world of shooting.

How's that for a good "sitting on the fence" type of answer?
