Unpopular opinion incoming

I think AKs are better than ARs for most people. Yeah I said it. They're simpler, more forgiving, and just work. ARs are great but everyone acts like they're perfect when they can be picky. Come at me AR guys, let's debate this.

Im not a fan of tactical rifles - however, I bought a COLT AR in 1983 ? It was used but in really good shape so it was probably an '79 or '80 model. It was fun to shoot, I put a lot of rounds through it, No problems feeding ammo. 150 yards is as far as I ever tested it. IMO It was as easy to obtain the center ring, so other than the fact I never shot less than a few hundred rounds every time I shot it ($$$) - what's not to like ? I only cleaned it a few times before trading it off so upkeep was minimal. Ive never shot an AK so I cant compare them. however, Ive been told by people who do own them, very reliable and very durable. What did I trade it for ? I was young and couldn't afford to shoot much. I bought a single action Ruger Blackhawk in .357. I had a lot of fun with that hand gun and it didn't eat ammo like the AR did.

However, for versatility ye be wrong.
AR uppers have a variety of options...Like a long range 24" triangle barrel upper, short tactical upper, 300 BLK upper, 22ARC upper these come to mind for some reason...

I mean its kind of like going to the prom with a husky Russian woman named Helga and dancing with her all night or going to Fort Lauderdale and parting with bikini clad American girls...

I like both platforms. As for functionality, I've had problems with gas tubes and such on a few AR's in the past, I've never had any issue with the gas system on an AK. I've had a few picky AR's in the past, I've never owned an AK that was picky at all. AK's have far wider mfg tolerances than do the AR style rifles, to me that helps with their reliability.

As for accuracy, the AR has the AK beat in my experience, not really even close in this aspect.

AR's have always seemed to require more maintenance than AK's, again I think that has a lot to do with the mfg tolerances. I would guess that the number of moving parts play a large part in that as well, I believe a standard AK has about 8 whereas the AR is around 15.

In an end of the world type scenario, and since I am an American living in the US, I would definitely have to give the nod to the AR due to the availability of spare parts and ammo for the weapon.

I have a lot of experience with both platforms and would grab either with a high degree of confidence in whichever one landed in my hands.
