Hey everyone, I thought it'd be great to share our experiences with local gun shops. We all know finding a trustworthy place to buy or service firearms can be a challenge. What makes a gun shop trustworthy to you? Have you had great experiences or some that you'd rather forget?

I'm looking for recommendations for shops in different areas, especially if they've got a solid used gun selection, fair prices, or reasonable transfer fees. Let's help each other out! What shops do you think are worth visiting? And if there are any you'd steer clear of, don't hold back. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

For a small town, Volunteer State Armory in Lenoir City is a great place to visit. Bobby is great to deal with and has a nice selection of new guns and often will have some really fine older firearms. Bobby is one of those folks you can totally trust.

Uncle Johns Hangins is a bit different. You never know what John has or what deal he has brewing. I've bought some stunning classic Smith revolvers and a Colt or two from him and done a few trades. I've always walked away from the deal feeling like we both came out ok. Johns is also a place where you can go hang out for an afternoon and make ne friends and visit old.

Crossroads Firearms in Halls has a very good selection of new and used fine arms at good prices. They carry reloading supplies, scopes, dots, suppressors and other items. Nice people!

Here in Dickson, the Dickson Sportsman store is a good and fair place to get guns, ammo and accessories. I use them also as my FFL if I order something from out of state.
Guns and Leather in Greenbriar has a great inventory of new and used guns and a good gunsmith.

I like Smoky Mountain Guns & Ammo (East Knox County), Buds Gun Shop (Kodak), Frontier Firearms (Kingston), Cross Roads Firearms (Fountain City - North Knoxville), and my local Rural King in Halls (North Knox County). I've never used a gun smith yet, the best customer service and warranty work I've EVER encountered has been with FMK Firearms in CA. They've had some handguns that were really "rough around the edges" and questionable quality in their early years, but my non-fuctional 9mm that I inherited, they warranty repaired and even upgraded to the current model design, has been flawless now for several hundred rounds. Had it at the range just today! A few hundred more rounds and I will start to trust it...

In Cleveland area, I use White Oak Armory. Very nice folks and the inventory is always changing. Great selection of used guns and new.
In Calhoun area, Hiwassee Firearms. Very small shop but JT is a friendly fella. Eclectic selection of used guns from local collections.
In Benton area, Benton Shooters Supply is a large retail shop. LOTS of new guns. Many long guns on the wall and accessible to customers. Great that you can see the shotguns and rifles without having to ask for help. Big archery shop as well with knowledgeable staff.

Sportsman's Store in Dickson is great ask for Tom, and Tennessee Gun Country in Clarksville is really good I been able to pick up a lot of hard to get reloading supplies from there and they also have a good selection of new and used guns

Just wondering if there's any out there that could remove a barrel from the action, it's a old 7x57 mauser
If you want a good gunsmith go see Joe at Woods Brothers in Halls. Joe has repaired, re-chambered & upgraded several rifles for me. Figured out a loading problem with my 280 AI on a Savage 110. Joe is an old school guy who believes in trustworthiness and honesty and getting the job done right..

I will give a thumbs up to Dickson's Sportsman as well. Friendly and reasonable. I will say that Royal Range is very proud of the items for sale ($$$), but they did me a solid earlier this week. I don't have a sight pusher, and I ask if they could remove the rear sight and install the red dot plate on my HK45. I didn't buy any of components from them. They installed the Delta Point Pro while I waited. Asked them what I owed them, and they said no charge.
I don't want to bash any LGS, but there are some significant differences in charges for FFL transfers. I inquired at a few in middle TN and was shocked at some of the fees they were charging. Nashville Gun and Knife wanted $100 for a transfer. I mentioned that another FFL was $50 a few miles away. They arrogantly stated for me to go down the road. I'll never visit that store again.
