How many here primarily enjoy target shooting, rifle? Maybe share your distances, calibers, etc.

Me? I like most everything from .17 HMR to .45-70 govt. I favor .22 Long Rifle & "the barrel burners" (especially .22-250).
I mostly shoot 25 - 318 yards, any weather.

What's your favorite plinker or long range shooter?

I would shoot a lot more target rifles, if there were ranges reasonably close to where I live. Packing up my rifles and driving an hour or more for a few hours of shooting is a bit of a chore. I’ll be heading to the closest range this morning, but it is only a 100 yard range. It will give me some trigger time and allow me to test some loads, but I will probably spend more time shooting handguns at this limited distance range.
The 280AI and muzzleloader will get a little workout today.

I mostly shoot on a private 250 yard range. I used to have access to a 700 Yard range which was great, but a family dispute when a death occurred caused inheritance conflicts so, I thought it better to just bow out and give it up. I really hate losing that 700 yard range! I can drive a short distance to a pay range but the maximum is like 316 yards and they don't maintain the targets regularly. (You're not allowed out on the Range) I know of another decent range but it's only 100 yd and a long drive. I was just talking to a friend about a 280 this morning. They muzzleloader at the range is a welcome change but mine is only dead on accurate for three shots then requires cleaning!

Plinker: 40 year old 10/22 (Kidd barrel, Bravo stock) and 223 (ESS chassis, Bartlein barrel) in the backyard - steel gongs at 350, 375, and 380 yards, both suppressed. The 22 is challenging at these distances.

Mid/long range: couple of 6.5x47's, NATO potato, 22 GT - ranges vary from 500 to 1250 yards at various shooting ranges, all rifles custom built and are suppressed. 6.5 x47 is 22 lbs, 308 is a svelte 18 lbs.

Favorite is my 12 pound crossover rifle with a 20" Bart CF 6.5x47 and a 22" Bart #4 Bull 22 GT that take turns in an HNT26, both have shown to be accurate at 1000 yards and (somewhat) accurate at 1250.

Times have changed where I get to shoot. Friends’ farms from my younger years have changed hands. Middle TN has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. I still shoot the 22LR in the back of my 5 acres of woods. Shooting suppressed helps to keep the complaints down. I go to Cheatham WLM range as it is only 30 or so minutes away. If you avoid the weekends, it is usually reasonably peaceful.

You are blessed. I only have one custom and rarely get a chance to stretch it out. I keep telling myself to join Strategic Edge. I don’t compete and don’t relish lugging a heavy rifle in the field. However, there is no doubt that weight is your friend when shooting for ultimate precision.

Yeah I don't compete either, but would be open to it if there were ever some local matches. Preferably hunter-style matches over PRS-style. Strategic Edge is nice though, and the skeet range down the road at Henry Horton park is lots of fun.

Mostly 22 LR but I mix in others just for variety & to stay reasonably proficient. My max distance on my property is only a little over 300 yards. I share the wishes stated by many that there were more 1000yd ranges available in West TN.

I’m mainly a rifle target shooter who mixes plinking with precision work..and for casual fun I love .22 long rifle for cheap fast sessions at 25 to 100 yards. For the fast barrel burners I lean toward .22-250 and .17 HMR at 100 to 300 yards and for real long range I like 6.5 Creedmoor or a heavy .308 setup from 300 out to 1000 yards depending on wind

One of my best buddies setup a range that's about a mile and a half from me. From where his bench sits he has it setup for 15, 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 yards. He has a bunch of the realtor type sign frames (didn't ask where they came from ) and at each distance he has 1" PVC tubes buried in the ground to set the frames in. He did very well in the setup!
