My old hunting rifle has one of those old-school iron sight setups and I shoot it at the range sometimes just to stay honest. Nothing checks your fundamentals like simple irons.
My eyes are getting weak as I get older. I like iron sights, but I cant see them as well - anymore. I tried peep sights and I can hit better with those but for me - Red Dots have been a game changer.
Iron sights have a way of humbling anyone who leans too heavily on optics. I run a few magazines on irons every trip just to remind myself what clean alignment really feels like.
I grew up with iron sights, even as a kid I always thought scopes took the challenge and fun out of shooting. Anyone learning to shoot should do so with irons and then progress to whatever high tech sights they choose.
