Hunting thick cover lately got me thinking about brush guns. My longer rifle feels clumsy in tight spots and it made me miss shots...so now, I'm all about shorter and quicker setups, what brush gun can I use in the thick cover?

Just about any lever action rifle will do nicely in brush. In fact if there were a statistic out there, Id place a small wager that - here in the South - more deer have been harvested with a 30-30 lever action rifle. If its not in the top three or four, Id place a second wager that its in the top ten. Don't get me wrong, I love my bolt action rifle for making a long shot, but more often than not , I'm in dense brush with a muzzle loader or a lever action. When you purchase your brush gun, please let us know what direction you went. Id like to hear about it.

I would add to the list a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington, or a Marlin 1894 and a Henry Big Boy steel in 44 Magnum and 41 Magnum. All very capable within their respective range.

I just want the lightest easy to handle gun I have right now that’s my fast twist 22-250 I’m not going to try to take a shot that’s not clear enough to see a least the front shoulder of a deer. There are lots of guns that fit this something else to hand that you can shoot accurately the woods here are very thick with sawbriars and undergrowth but I’m not going to try to shoot what I can’t see clearly

Another vote for 30-30 Lever Action. As stated, they have been putting deer in freezers (and old ice boxes) long before all the fancy rifles and optics of today. And for the record, now they can do an even better job with the advanced ammo options out there.
