Do camo patterns really matter?

I’ve spent a few seasons testing different camo in various terrains, and honestly some patterns seem to blend better depending on the environment, while others don’t make much difference at all. Do you think camo patterns actually help or is it mostly about staying still and using natural cover?

I normally don't wear camo, just browns and greens. Some of the patterns are pretty cool and do blend in amazingly well. However, the reflectivity on the light spectrum is what you must consider because animals supposedly see in a different range than humans. What looks like a great pattern can look like a blue hue or something similar. I can't find the article I read for reference so I cannot really backup my response.

I agree sitting still and using natural terrain and surroundings is a great way to experience game. Interestingly, in Europe and Africa most hunters do not wear camo gear. I saw many professional hunters in Africa wearing muted colors (mostly forest green) and shorts.

Camo works great and for sure, how animals see light makes a big difference in what patterns work best. Usually the less flashy colors work better for camo out in the open.

I really think that the animal you’re hunting makes more difference as to the camo you’re using turkeys matter the most, the camo I like the best is asat and you can’t hardly find it anywhere. If I’m duck hunting in a blind I like something really dark or even black because if you’re looking down on a duck blind the shooting rail looks more black than anything else. But if I can find asat that’s the most all around camo there is we’ve stood two people around side by side in the woods, fields, and the old brown camo is my second choice, deer hunting with a bow it makes a little more difference than with a gun
