So my first gun purchase... I walked into the shop wanting to look tough and walked out with a Ruger 10/22. Yeah, I know. Not exactly what action movies are made of. But you know what? It was the best decision ever. It is cheap to shoot, impossible to mess up and I actually learned proper fundamentals instead of developing a flinch from a hand cannon I couldn't control.
 
Sounds like you got some great advice from a salesperson who knew their stuff. They probably sized you up and talked you out of buying the gun you thought you wanted after watching too many action flicks. Looks like it worked out :)

You did well, the 10/22 is an absolute icon of a rifle! 👍

I know a lot of venders at a few of the large the gun shows in TN, we've laughed more than once about people coming in to buy a gun immediately after some new movie action movie comes out...doesn't usually take the buyers long to question why they bought the "movie" gun and quickly trade them back in at about 1/2 price..! 😂
